DHS Goes Audit-less for Sixth Straight Year – CQ Homeland Security

Financial management problems at the Department of Homeland Security have prevented an independent auditor from providing any opinion on the department’s balance sheets for the sixth consecutive year, according to documents released Monday.

The department was unable to show the auditing firm, KPMG, that its balance sheets were correct. Furthermore, it could not provide sufficient evidence to support its financial statements, Skinner’s memo said.

KPMG was also unable to perform the examination procedures necessary to form an opinion about DHS’s internal control over its financial reporting, the memo said.
